I see you came for another chuckle. Well, I’m sure I can manifest a giggle or two. Thanks for giving me your time!
My Grandma taught me to crochet. I don’t remember making anything more than a few chains and some pot holders. Somewhere along the line I decided to teach myself knitting. The easy thing to do, would have been to ask my other Grandma to show me, one knitted and one crocheted. I have knitted a few things in my time, but it never stuck with me.
During the begining of the pandemic I decided I needed to kick Granny’s crocheting up a notch. I decided to teach myself amigurumi. That long word I can’t pronounce, is the Japanese art of crocheting really small stuff. I have come to believe it is a form of Japanese hand torture. But I fell in love with it. I became a crocheting fool.
The little owls, I ended up putting a little chunk of scented wax in. I also represented little Ms. Naked Frida kitty. The Frida doll keychain, by far my favorite. I belive Frida doll met her demise at the paws of my poodle Indy. The teeny flip flops were an experiment I took on to give a co-worker who had a primi in the NICU. What I learned rapidly with this experiment, is that my eyesight is lacking and light is your friend. Now, learning crochet is learning a new language too. I was getting out of control. There are so many crazy cool patterns on that darn internet.
I was making gifts and even took on a couple commissions. You may have read through the website where I mention the tendency to begin above my experience. I had two such crochet experiments evolve. One, I just had to make for a co-worker, this cute young thing just starting her carreer. she married a fireman. The other was a commission, a co-worker asked if I could make her a special request blanket. Of course I had to turn it up a notch. Neither of the items were amigurumi, but they equally contributed to a little arthritis I’m sure.
In typical Hippie Ang fashion my crocheting experiments started to spiral out of control. I decided to head in the other direction and go big.
No problem with sore hands on this experiment. This was the biggest thing i’ve crocheted at the time. I love it. Although, if I ever make another, I will put some kind of support inside so it will stand on its own better.
You made it through another experiment with me. I hope you have enjoyed the creativeness.
Peace, Love and Chains,
Hippie Ang
